How to Never Miss a Dose for Your Pet

Use reminders you can't ignore

A note on the fridge works until life gets busy. A phone reminder that goes off at dose time, every time, is far harder to miss. Set one for each dose — including the awkward ones like mid-afternoon or late evening that slip through the cracks.

Tie it to a routine

Reminders are stronger when paired with a habit. Give meds with breakfast and dinner, or alongside your own morning and evening routine. The behaviour you already do becomes the trigger for the one you need to remember.

Log every dose

Logging isn't just record-keeping — it's how you answer "did I already give it?" without guessing. A clear log prevents both missed doses and accidental double-doses, especially when more than one person shares the care.

Share the load at home

If your partner, kids or a pet sitter help out, everyone needs to see the same information: what's due, what's been given, and what's left. A shared, up-to-date log means no one assumes someone else did it — the number one way doses get missed.

What to do if you miss one

If you realize you missed a dose, don't automatically double up. For many medications you give it when you remember and carry on, but for some, doubling is risky. The safe move is to follow the guidance on the label or call your vet — and then get back on schedule.
